With a contract assigned recently to the consortium made by SIMIC and Ansaldo Nucleare, the on-site works have just started with the VV preservation and the metrology that is on-going. Then, what needs to be done is basically filling the "valleys" or shaving the "hills" along the bevel joint region to restore geometry to nominal and recover the ability to weld the sectors together. This activity, that seems quite easy, is actually a huge and complex task, to be accomplished in strict times and following the most stringent nuclear requirements. SIMIC and the entire team, in collaboration with IO staff, is working hard to make good progress on this exciting and challenging project.
